Frequently asked questions

Do I need a credit card to start?
No. Create an account, try every feature for 14 days, then decide if it's worth $49–249/mo to you.
Is AI included on all plans?
Yes — every plan includes a monthly AI usage allowance ($20 Solo, $60 Small Firm, $125 Complete) that covers the assistant, drafting, and analysis features. When the allowance runs out it resets the next month; firms that need more can purchase an AI Boost or connect their own Anthropic API key and pay Anthropic directly. AI fee petition drafting is included with Complete and Enterprise.
Can we use our own AI account instead?
Yes, two ways. Bring-your-own-key: connect your firm's own Anthropic API key in Settings and all built-in AI features bill straight to your Anthropic account, with spend controls in your hands (note: your key runs under your firm's own agreement and retention terms with Anthropic). Bring-your-own-AI: with the MCP access add-on, connect Claude, ChatGPT, or any MCP-capable assistant you already pay for to your Trial Commander data.
Is trust accounting available on all plans?
IOTA trust accounting is available on Complete and Enterprise tiers. Solo and Small Firm can track billing and time but not trust transactions.
How is this different from generic practice-management tools?
Those are broad horizontal tools. Trial Commander is narrower and deeper: it's built from Florida Bar rules up, with trial preparation (witnesses, exhibits, discovery, motions, jury selection, instructions) centralized alongside billing and trust. Best fit for litigators.
What happens if I cancel?
Your data is retained for 30 days after cancellation so you can export. After that, it's deleted except for Rule 5-1.2(b) retention requirements (6 years for trust records). You can export everything as CSV/PDF at any time.
Do you have a HIPAA BAA?
Yes, on Enterprise tier. Required if you handle protected health information (common in medical malpractice and personal injury). Not available on lower tiers.
